Located in the upscale River Oaks Shopping Center at the corner of West Gray and Shepherd, the River Oaks is one of Houston's last true movie palaces, having kept its beautifully ornate Art Deco interior since it opened its doors in November, 1939

A 501(c)(3) non-profit cinema dedicated to short, artist-made films and videos and housed in a church built in 1924 in Houston. The theater is supported by its membership, Houston Endowment, Inc, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, the Texas Commission on the Arts, the City of Houston through the Houston Arts Alliance, the Nightingale Code Foundation, the Brown Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Oshman Foundation, and is a member of Fresh Arts Coalition. The theater also has a video library containing more than 800 titles available for viewing.
