Founded in 1939 and fully restored in 2004, the beautiful and historic Avon Theatre now features the best of independent, world and documentary films, foreign and Hollywood classics, and educational programming.

The Bantam Cinema was opened in 1927 as "The Rivoli". For its first year or so, the Cinema showed silent movies accompanied by a Wurlitzer organ. Live acts occasionally performed on the theater's stage. The cinema has no marquee and looks more like a red barn than a theater. Nevertheless, it is Connecticut's oldest continuously operated movie house, has won some national acclaim due to it's uniqueness and it's long history, and features the best in art house cinema.
